A Lamp for the Path
Walking with Jesus: 31 Days to a Closer Walk
Day 4 — A Lamp for the Path
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” - Psalm 119:105
God’s Word serves as a gentle beacon, illuminating not the entire journey ahead, but just the next step. It is a guiding light, sufficient for our needs.
In our quest for certainty, we often desire a full view of the road that lies before us. We want to know where we are going, how long it will take, what obstacles we will face, and how everything will turn out. Yet God, in His grace, often gives us just enough light to take the next step in faithful obedience.
Scripture anchors us in the truth of His character, especially when the world around us feels uncertain, unstable, and dark. His Word reminds us that He is faithful, present, wise, and good.
If your path feels shrouded in darkness today, resist the urge to chase after the distant horizon. Instead, open His Word. Sit with Scripture. Let the Lord speak through the pages of the Bible.
The lamp is still shining. The path is still before you. And God will give you enough light for the next step.
Let us pray.
Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You for lighting our path through Your Word. Help us to walk one step at a time, trusting You to guide the rest of the way. Teach us to rely on Scripture when the road ahead is unclear, and give us the faith to follow where You lead.

Ray’s Reflection
It is easy to get caught up in the lights of this world, even the lights that appear to shine in the name of faith. Bright stages, polished programs, Christian television, radio voices, magazine covers, conferences, platforms, and personalities can all have their place, but none of them can replace the steady light of God’s Word.
We live in a time when people can become more attached to the messenger than the message, more impressed by the spotlight than the Savior. That is dangerous ground. The loudest voice is not always the truest voice, and the brightest stage is not always where God is speaking most clearly.
Psalm 119:105 reminds us that His Word is the lamp for our feet and the light for our path. Not popularity. Not personalities. Not trends. Not religious entertainment. His Word.
There is nothing wrong with being encouraged by faithful teachers, pastors, writers, or ministries. But every voice must be tested by Scripture. Every message must be held up to the light of God’s truth.
The Christian life is not about chasing every shining thing in the distance. It is about walking humbly, step by step, with the Bible open, the Spirit leading, and Jesus at the center.
Stay close to the Word. The lights of this world may flicker, fade, and fail, but the lamp of God’s truth still shines.
