Walking with Jesus - When I Am Not Enough “But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” -2 Corinthians 12:9 This morning, my plate is full, my strength is drained, and yesterday’s failures still whisper my name.I am not enough. The ache of inadequacy lingers as I wake, a heaviness that haunts my mind and heart. It whispers reminders of my shortcomings, amplifying every place I have come up short. This feeling is not just a passing thought—it can wrap itself around my day, making it hard to breathe or hope.Those words can sound like defeat, but perhaps they are the beginning of surrender. If you, like me, feel haunted by the ache of never measuring up, know that you are not alone. The truth is, I was never meant to be enough on my own. We were created to live in daily dependence upon Jesus Christ—He welcomes us, not despite our weakness, but because of it.Paul pleaded with the Lord to remove the thorn that tormented him. He wanted relief. He wanted the burden lifted. Instead, God gave him something greater than escape: “My grace is sufficient for you.”God did not tell Paul that the thorn was insignificant. He did not pretend the pain was easy. He promised that His grace would be greater than Paul’s weakness.We live in a world that celebrates strength, success, and self-sufficiency. We are taught to hide our wounds, cover our failures, and keep moving as though nothing hurts. But God does some of His deepest work in the places we try hardest to conceal.Our weakness is not a barrier to His power. It is often the very place where His power becomes most visible.That does not mean we celebrate sin, excuse failure, or quietly accept defeat. It means we stop pretending that we can repair ourselves. We bring our broken places to Christ and allow His grace to meet us there. Like a cracked vessel repaired with gold, the evidence of brokenness may remain, but it no longer tells only a story of failure. It becomes a testimony of restoration. The cracks show where grace entered.Perhaps your plate is full today. Maybe you woke up haunted by memories of past failures, feeling the weight of your own limitations pressing in. Your body is tired, your heart is heavy, and shame or regret keeps reminding you of every place you came up short. If you feel like you are not enough, you are seen.You may not have enough strength for everything before you.But Jesus does.You may not have enough wisdom, patience, courage, or faith for the entire road ahead.But His grace is sufficient for the next step.The Lord is not asking you to prove that you are strong enough. He is asking you to trust that He is. When your strength runs out, Christ has not abandoned you. You have simply reached the place where you can no longer confuse His strength with your own.So today, I will stop trying to convince myself that I am enough.I am weak, but He is strong. I am weary, but He is faithful. I have failed, but His grace has not.And when I have nothing left to offer but surrender, the power of Christ will rest upon me. I confess that I am not enough, but I praise You that I was never meant to face this life without You.Teach me to stop hiding my weakness and bring it honestly before Your throne. Silence the voice of condemnation and remind me that Your grace is sufficient. Where I am weak, show Yourself strong. Where I am weary, carry me. Where I have failed, forgive me, restore me, and help me take the next faithful step.Let the power of Christ rest upon me today. Today’s Grace for Today’s Trouble“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” — Matthew 6:34 Worry has a way of dragging tomorrow’s clouds across today’s sky.We begin imagining conversations that have not happened, problems that have not arrived, and losses we may never face. Before long, we are carrying the weight of two days at once—and God never asked us to do that.Jesus does not tell us to ignore our responsibilities or refuse to make plans. He tells us not to live imprisoned by what might happen. Tomorrow belongs to God. Today is the day He has placed in our hands.The Lord gives us grace for the day we are living. Strength for today’s burden. Wisdom for today’s decision. Comfort for today’s sorrow. When tomorrow arrives, His mercy will already be waiting there.That does not mean today will be easy. Jesus plainly said that each day has enough trouble of its own. He never sugarcoated life in a broken world. But He also reminded us that we do not face today alone.Perhaps your mind is already racing ahead—toward the doctor’s report, the unpaid bill, the difficult conversation, or the future of someone you love. Bring your thoughts back to where your feet are. God is here. His grace is here. His strength is here.You do not have to solve tomorrow tonight.Take today one prayer, one decision, and one faithful step at a time. The God who has carried you this far will still be God when tomorrow comes. PrayerDear Heavenly Father, forgive me for carrying burdens You never asked me to carry. When my mind runs ahead into tomorrow, bring me back into Your presence today. Give me strength for what is before me, wisdom for the decisions I must make, and peace concerning everything I cannot control. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.”Matthew 5:14Reflection:Today, I am struggling.There are days when the weight of life feels heavier than our strength. We pray for others, encourage the hurting, and try to remain faithful—but inside, we wonder how much more we can carry.On days like this, the words of Jesus may feel almost impossible: “You are the light of the world.”Lord, how can I be a light when I feel surrounded by darkness? How can I encourage someone else when my own heart is weary?But Jesus did not say that we are the light because we always feel strong. He did not say our light would never flicker in the wind. He simply declared, “You are the light of the world.”A candle does not have to light the entire room by itself. It only has to remain connected to the flame.Our light does not come from our strength, our confidence, or our ability to hold everything together. Our light comes from Christ living within us. When we are weak, He remains strong. When our faith feels like a flicker, He guards the flame.Sometimes our brightest witness is not found in pretending everything is fine. It is found in continuing to trust God while tears are still falling. It is whispering, “Jesus, help me,” when we do not have the strength for a longer prayer. It is taking one more step when we cannot see the whole road ahead.You may feel dim today, but you have not gone dark. Christ is still with you. His light is still within you. And even a trembling flame can help another weary traveler find the way home. Prayer:Dear Heavenly Father, today I am struggling. My heart is tired, and the burdens feel heavy. I do not have the strength to shine on my own, so I ask You to shine through me. Protect the small flame of faith within my heart. Remind me that my weakness does not disqualify me and that Your strength is made perfect in weakness. Help me take the next step, speak the next prayer, and trust You through this darkness. Strength for Whatever Comes“I can do all this through Him who gives me strength.” —Philippians 4:13Philippians 4:13 is often quoted before a difficult task, a big decision, or an impossible-looking challenge. But Paul did not write these words from a place of comfort or success. He wrote them as a man who had known hunger and abundance, freedom and imprisonment, acceptance and rejection.Paul was not saying, “I can accomplish anything I set my mind to.” He was saying, “Through Christ, I can endure whatever God allows me to face.”That is a different kind of strength.The strength Christ gives does not always remove the burden. Sometimes He strengthens our backs to carry it. He does not always calm the storm immediately. Sometimes He steadies our feet while the wind is still blowing.There will be days when our own strength is not enough. We may feel emotionally exhausted, spiritually drained, or physically worn down. That is not failure. It is an invitation to stop depending upon ourselves and begin leaning more heavily upon Christ.Jesus never asked us to manufacture strength we do not possess. He asks us to remain close to Him. His strength becomes most evident when ours has reached its limit.Whatever stands before you today—a difficult conversation, a painful loss, an uncertain future, or simply the strength to get through another day—you do not face it alone. Christ is with you, and He will provide what you need for the road He has placed before you.You may not feel strong, but the One holding you is. PrayerDear Heavenly Father, I confess that I often depend upon my own strength and become discouraged when it fails me. Teach me to rely upon Christ in every circumstance. Give me strength for today, courage for what lies ahead, and faith to trust You when the road is difficult. Remind me that I do not have to face anything alone. Jeremiah 1:19 Have you ever felt a calling that seemed both exciting and terrifying?Maybe God is leading you to start something new, mend a broken relationship, speak truth with grace, serve in a way that stretches you, or choose kindness when everything in you wants to walk away.Then doubt begins to whisper:“Who am I to do this?” “What if I fail?” “What if I am not strong enough?”That is where Jeremiah found himself when God called him. He was a young man given a difficult assignment. The road ahead would not be easy. He would face opposition, rejection, resistance, and discouragement.But God did not build Jeremiah’s confidence by pointing to Jeremiah’s strength.He pointed to His own presence.“They will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you and will rescue you.”What a promise.God did not tell Jeremiah there would be no battle. He did not promise him a life free from resistance. In fact, He told him plainly that opposition would come. But He also gave Jeremiah something greater than comfort, convenience, or easy circumstances.He gave him the assurance of His presence.That same truth still speaks to us today.When your calling feels too big, your fears too loud, and your strength too small, remember this: God does not call you because you are fully qualified. He calls you because He is faithful.And He never sends His people alone.Whatever your “impossible” looks like today — the step of faith you have been avoiding, the conversation you have been dreading, the burden you have been carrying, or the dream you have been too afraid to pursue — listen for the steady whisper of God:“I am with you.”Let that be your courage.The fight may be real, but it will not have the final word. God is with you, and He knows how to rescue His own.

The Battle is Real, But So is The Victory

Devotion — God Is Not on Our Honey-Do List“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.” Psalm 107:1Most wives know what a honey-do list is. It is that running list of things we hope our husband will get around to fixing, building, moving, repairing, hanging, hauling, or finishing.And let’s be honest, sometimes those lists can get pretty long.But somewhere along the way, if we are not careful, we can start treating God the same way. We bring Him our spiritual honey-do list and say, “Lord, if You fix this, change that, heal this, provide that, open this door, close that one, and answer this prayer exactly the way I want, then I will praise You.”But that is not worship. That is negotiation.God is not our handyman. He is our Father.We do not love God because He checks every box on our list. We love Him because of who He is and because of what He has already done. He sent His Son. He forgave our sins. He carried us through storms we thought would break us. He gave us breath this morning, grace for today, mercy we did not earn, and blessings we have not even stopped long enough to count.The truth is, many of us are asking God for more while failing to thank Him for what is already in our hands.If God gave us everything on our list, we still could not count all His blessings. And if He gave us nothing else, Calvary would still be enough.Love for God cannot be conditional. It cannot be, “Lord, I will love You if…” Real love says, “Lord, I love You because You first loved me.”There is nothing wrong with bringing our needs to God. He invites us to pray. He cares about every burden, every tear, every fear, and every need. But prayer is not a business meeting, and faith is not a bargain.Today, lay down the honey-do list long enough to lift up a hallelujah.Before asking Him for another thing, thank Him for what He has already done. Let us PrayDear Heavenly Father, forgive me for the times I have treated You more like a servant than my Savior. Forgive me for measuring Your love by whether You answered my prayers the way I wanted. Help me to see the blessings already around me. Teach me to love You without conditions, to trust You without demands, and to praise You not only for what You can do, but for what You have already done. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
