Walking with Jesus — What Lasts

“For while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.” — 1 Timothy 4:8

Devotional

Let’s be honest—we tend to invest more in what we can see than in what we cannot.

We’ll plan our day around work, meals, and maybe even exercise. We track progress, set goals, and stay disciplined. But when it comes to time with God, it often gets pushed aside or squeezed in—if at all.

Paul doesn’t dismiss physical discipline. He says it has value.

But then he points us to something greater.

Godliness has value in every way—not just for eternity, but for today.

The truth is, everything we build on the outside has limits. Strength fades. Energy declines. Time moves on. But what God builds in you—your faith, your character, your walk with Him—that doesn’t fade.

It grows.

And it shows up in real life.

It shows up in how you respond under pressure.
In how quickly you forgive.
In how you carry peace into situations that should steal it.

Those things don’t happen by accident. They’re built day by day.

Not through big moments—but through small, faithful choices.

A few minutes in prayer.
Time in His Word.
Choosing trust over worry.

That’s where real strength is formed.

Our Practical Application

Don’t overcomplicate it.

Start small—but start today.

Make one intentional choice to invest in your walk with God.

Because what you build there will last.

Let us Pray

Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for reminding me that what truly matters is not just what I build on the outside, but what You are building within me.

Help me to make time for You each day—not out of routine, but out of a desire to grow closer to You. Strengthen my faith, shape my character, and guide my steps so that my life reflects Your truth.

Teach me to value what lasts, and to invest in the things that carry both into today and into eternity.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Walk in faith, rest in grace, and trust the One who walks beside you.
In His love and grace,
