Walking with Jesus: It Is Not About Me
Walking with Jesus: It Is Not About Me
A Reflection on Humility, Grace, and the True Source of Power
“Why do you stare at us as if by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk?” — Acts 3:12
Someone wrote to me yesterday and said I was the best man they ever knew. I appreciate the love behind those words, but we must grasp this truth: It is not about me.
When someone is healed, it is not because I prayed well enough. When someone is delivered, it is not because I possess some special power. When someone is saved, it is certainly not because of me.
It is because of the God I serve—His mercy, His strength, His unending faithfulness. Every miracle, every deliverance, every life changed is a testament to His unwavering love.
It is His presence, His light, His love, His Word, and His power working through me—not a power that belongs to me—that heals, delivers, and saves. I am only a vessel, a servant sent by the One who has all authority. My greatest privilege is to be an instrument in His hands.
Peter understood this profound truth. When the man who had been unable to walk was healed, the astonished people looked at Peter and John as though they had accomplished it through their own power or godliness. But Peter, filled with humility and reverence, immediately turned their attention away from himself and toward Jesus, the true source of all miracles.
That is what every true servant of God must do: deflect the glory from themselves and direct it to the Savior. Our calling is to become invisible so that Christ may be seen.
If you see anything good in me, you are seeing the handiwork of Christ. If my prayers have helped someone, it is because God heard and answered. If my words have brought comfort, it is because His Word alone carries life. If someone has found salvation through this ministry, it is Jesus who did the saving—not me.
The servant may carry the message, but the message belongs to God. The servant may lay hands on the hurting, but the power belongs to God. The servant may stand before the people, but the glory belongs to God. We are but instruments; He is the Musician. We are but vessels; He is the Living Water.
We must never confuse the vessel with the Treasure it carries, nor mistake the messenger for the Author of the message. The greatness is in Him, not in us.
I am deeply grateful that God chooses to work through ordinary people like me. Yet, I never want anyone’s faith resting in Ray Mileur. I am human—I will fail, I will grow tired, and I will not always have the right words. But Jesus is unfailing, unchanging, and ever faithful.
Jesus never fails.
I am not the answer. I only serve the One who is.
The Lord be with you.
In His love
